This part of the city was known as Brandy Circut because there are supposed to be brandy stills following to this space. In 1882, this square acquired its current name on the centenary of the death of the Portuguese political leader Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo (Marquês de Pombal) The square includes a romantic garden, two fountains and a bandstand. Densely wooded, it is very popular on hot days and by pensioners who play Swedish and domino games here. With the metro in the zone, you can quickly move around the city in a few minutes.
