The Blue House - A Sustainability Award Winning retreat perched above the historic whaler’s Bay of Capelas. This sustainably-built 3-bedroom home combines a carbon-neutral construction with tranquil comfort.

The sea views can be experienced from all the bedrooms, living areas and especially the garden’s ample deck with a long wood table, Adirondack lounge chairs, and a wide wood-fired BBQ. The plants growing in the garden are a variety of endemic coastal species that will bloom throughout the year. The Capelas bay port is a 5-minute walk down the hill, with an easy access to dive into the ocean. The North Coast hiking trail crosses the Blue house door, which leads to other swimming spots through a beautiful nature hike. The architects contrasted traditional basalt stone construction of the existing ruin with modern, insulated wood construction and an innovative facade made from recycled ocean plastic. The blue recycled plastic is an effort to capture and reduce pollution, re-utilising a short-term product and applying it to a long-term function of protecting the building from the open ocean and serving as a durable decking material. By engaging local craftsmen, we are able to offer custom-built sustainably sourced furniture to create a fully developed living environment. Should Neptune smile favourably on the Blue house during your stay, you will see pods of dolphins and/or whales passing by, framed by the large 5m (15’) living room window. Binoculars are available in the house for such occasions.
