When strolling through the old town of San Mateo, a visit to the most emblematic buildings is a must: The Parish Church of La Vega de San Mateo, located on the main street, has a bell donated by Cuban emigrants who lived in the town. The central upper section is crowned by three bells, designed by José Luján Pérez. Construction was completed in 1895.

: We vonden alles prima, behalve dan dat rattenprobleem. Er waren ratten; ik snap dat je die op het platteland hebt, maar je kon ze door de tuin horen rennen.
